We had a fantastic day for our Open House event on Friday 24 August 2018.
Our guess is that there were approx. 300 visitors from near and far during the day.
thanks to everyone who took the time to come by and celebrate the big day with us.
Below are some pictures from the day
In order to meet an increasing demand for organic potatoes for the chips and peeling industry, we are erecting a new building, containing a new warehouse and production plant with the aim of being able to handle the organic part of our production, as well as our peeling and French fries potatoes.
The storage capacity in the new warehouse will be 58,000 hkg. in boxes. The warehouse will be equipped with room cooling and pressurized ventilation between the boxes, which contain approx. 1800 kg per piece
The new production facility will be set up so that we can better handle peeled and French fries than we can in our current facility, as we will, among other things, have much better options for size sorting of both unwashed and washed products, so that we can better meet the wishes of our customers have. (2018)
So we have returned home from the variety exhibition in the Netherlands with a lot of new inspiration.
It is always fascinating to get around and meet all our customers, suppliers and business partners and hear how the market is doing.
We have carefully selected the varieties that we will test in our trial fields in 2018 and hope that there is just one of them that turns out to be the variety that we are waiting for.
It is a satisfied board and management in Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S which can announce that Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S retroactively till March 1st 2017,
have taken over all the activities in Scanax International A/S.
The two companies have throughout the last months looked at the possibilities. It has led to the purchase of all activities in Scanax.
The activities will be carried on in a new daughter company of Thorsens
Chipskartofler A/S but with the existing name Scanax International A/S and with the same staff. Erik Thorsen will though step in as director.
As the first European wholesale supplier of potatoes for the production of potato chips, Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S (Denmark) is now offering its customers access to a web-based information system containing unique data for each customer. By using the system, the customer can access detailed information regarding the quality of the potatoes under way to be delivered.
Thorsens Chipskartofler already delivers potatoes based on a “just-in-time” concept. This means that the customer can order potatoes a few days in advance, to be delivered by a specific time. Today all deliveries are quality checked and the results are sent to the customer. Now however, Thorsens Chipskartofler has invested in a new, state-of-the-art lab for quality analysis as well as an automated system for data collection for traceability and quality. The automated data collection minimizes the risk of error and allows the results from the analyses to be made available to the customers through the web-based information system.
CEO Erik Thorsen stated; “Our customers knows their potatoes before they see them”.
The new transparency of the delivery, which is unique for the industry, offers huge benefits for the manufacturers, as it will enable early planning of their production, adjusted to the actual potato quality possible. This will result in better chips and a more effective production. All data relating to deliveries are kept in a single digital repository, which makes it easy to retrieve historical data for analysis.
The investment follows just three years after Thorsens Chipskartofler spent € 3,5 mill., setting up the most advanced wash and sorting installation in Northern Europe.
CEO Erik Thorsen;”I expect that this investment will contribute substantially to continued growth in our exports, which has already grown by 60% since the investment made in 2012. In the industry there is a huge demand for information regarding the commodities used. We are the first to deliver this information online.” Thorsen adds, “quality has always been high priority for us and we have monitored quality continuously. Now we have created a digital platform to share our information.” Finally Erik Thorsen says, “Our state-of-the-art lab has been established with our corporate values in mind. We want to be an attractive workplace and our lab will improve working conditions; by among other things eliminating heavy lifts entirely.”
The new facilities will be ready October 29th and this will be celebrated with an open house event, which also marks Erik Thorsens 60th birthday.
Thursday. November 13, we had a visit from 35 students from Asmildkloster agricultural college.
It was some polite and inquisitive young people. They had prepared some questions before they came to visit us, which is making a tour in the company more exciting. We started with a tour in the production and storage buildings, followed by a presentation by Erik Thorsen in the meeting room, where they got a refreshing drink and some potatocrisps.
Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S have chosen to found a daughter company in Germany. The company is registred as Thorsens Chipskartofler GmbH and is owned 100 % by Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S.
Thorsens Chipskartofler GmbH will open September 7th 2013, in rented premises by RWG Hoya eG’s potato division. Kartoffelzentrum Hagen, Zum Bahnhof 2a, 31535 Hagen, Neustadt am Rübenberge.
There is made an agreement regarding rent of office and quality control facilities.
Director for Thorsens Chipskartofler GmbH is Erik B. Thorsen, but the full responsibility regarding the operation is entrusted to the newly appointed operation manager for Southern Europe, Jesper B. Poulsen.
In 11 years Jesper has been employed as responsible for storing and production in Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S, therefore the concept which the company works by, is very well known for Jesper, and he will bring this concept to the daugther company in Germany.
Thorsens Chipskartofler Gmbh’s function is, as a service for the parent company, to take over all logistics and quality control regarding deliveries for Southern Europe and logistics and quality control regarding deliveries from suppliers and other partners in Germany.
Thorsens Chipskartofler GmbH will not do any trading of potatoes, instead the operations in the company will be concentrated around logistics and quality control, so the service for costumers and suppliers will be even better.
All buying and selling of potatoes, will still be done, from the parent company Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S in Denmark.
In 2014 Thorsens Chipskartofler GmbH will move the adress to similar premises in Steimbke.
RWG Hoya eG will build new facilities in Steimbke for storing, washing, grading and packing. These new facilities will be build during the next year.
Thorsens Chipskartofler GmbH will therefore get the possibility from 2014, to deliver the same kind of goods as delivered from Denmark now. It means washed and optic graded potatoes, and therefore no waste for the costumer.
Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S hopes that German suppliers, partners and Southern European costumers will like this new innitiativ, and it may be an advantage for everybody.
