Quality control
Quality control is very important at Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S because we want our customers to purchase a high quality product every time. Therefore we visit our suppliers at least 3 times during the growing season, sometimes up to 10 times. Often we take samples with us from the visits. This allows us to constantly monitor and ensure the best possible quality. Suppliers are also obligated to keep a record on all the things that are done on the field as well as observations in the field.
Thorsens Chipskartofler rewards the growers that have GlobalGAP certification by paying extra for each ton they deliver us.
At Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S we take a sample from each load delivered by our suppliers. These samples determine the price. We also take samples from every load delivered to customers. The results we send by mail or fax to the customer before the load arrives so the customer knows the quality of potatoes before unloading the truck. Same as for the supplier also for the customer the quality test is used to determine the price for the load.
The samples are weighted then washed and sorted by size, after that the different portions are weighted again to calculate the percentage of dirt, small and big potatoes. Then we take tests for starches, sugar and frying. The potatoes with external faults are taken out. The remaining potatoes we slice with a cutter, developed by ourselves, to see any internal deffects. In the end we weight all defects and convert them to percentages.
During the whole storage season we take sugar tests for all batches every 10th day to keep an eye on the quality at the warehouse all the time. At the same time we also understand which supplier’s potatoes are best at what time and we can use that knowledge in plan making for the next cultivation season.
At Thorsens Chipskartofler A/S we have full traceability for all products, starting from suppliers until delivery to the customer.
